 I admit it.  I love The Princess Bride.  Not everything has to be all spooky.

HOWEVER, who can deny the Rodents Of Unusual Size are pretty scary beasts?  Here in the desert, we have what may be the closest thing - the javelina.

Not quite a rodent, not quite a pig, these peccary move with an odd hopping/running gait.  They appear in the suburbs of Phoenix more often than you might think.

I've only seen javelina in herds.  They are not really aggressive, but you REALLY do not want to challenge them.  Their bite is a fearsome thing indeed.

When they are lured in by the sweet scent of your Jack O 'Lantern, it's best to just let them be and go get another!
