Steampunk Jack O'Lantern by Midjourney

I have been really impressed with some of the art coming out of the Midjourney AI.  I have seen everything from anime to photorealistic images.  It seems to have a vast catalogue not just of images, but forms, textures, and even styles.  You tell it what to imagine, and it pops out some ideas.

This is what I got using /imagine Steampunk Jack O'Lantern:

If you see any that are on the right track, you can ask for more variations like that.  When you get something you really like, you can upscale it for a larger, more detailed image.

In a way, it reminds me of an episode of Star Trek where some aliens gave children a tool that transformed their ideas into paintings, sculptures, whatever.  It allowed them to go straight from imagining to creating without learning the skills in between.

 

Where do we go when computers are not only calculating for us, but imagining for us too?

For now, it seems like a very interesting way to get inspiration as the AI often combines forms in ways a human might not.
