From the Desk of Dean Koontz
Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors. Probably my very favorite, really, especially for suspense and "horror".
Got an email From the Desk of Dean Koontz today and thought I'd share the preamble with you:
Dear Readers,
Well, here we already are at October. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it comes around every year. I’ve been refining my outfit—more orange hair, a big blue nose instead of a red one, black-and-red-checkered pants, giant yellow shoes—and everyone seems to like the novelty of a happy clown rather than an evil one. I’m having a lot of fun, but I’m going to have to start thinking about what to wear on Halloween.
I recommend Dean Koontz to anyone who enjoys scary or suspenseful stories but has not yet discovered his stuff.
The Big Dark Sky is the most recent of his that I've read, combining a number of genres as his work so often does. Is it supernatural horror? A mystery? Sci-Fi? Well, yes. Yes, it is.
His Frankenstein series is a fun and unique take on Mary Shelley's creation.
The Odd Thomas series about a short order cook who sees the dead and helps them move on is probably the most popular of his recent works.
77 Shadow Street would make a pretty sweet haunt, I think.
The Bad Place, published back in 1990, is also pretty great. Reminds me of Phantasm in some ways.
Lightning is even older and features the life of a woman over many years, and the stranger who appears in it at times of great danger.
The man was publishing before Hendrix had heard of Woodstock. There is definitely something for everyone in his vast bibliography.
Happy Halloween!
