There is something so primal about stone carvings.
Carving interesting figures into slate is pretty simple and any number of such objects can be created with few tools. Is the stone cursed, or is the curse written on the stone? Only the museum curator knows!
The Grail tablet from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade certainly does not contain a curse, yet those who possess it may be in danger from the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword who seek to protect the Grail.
That's certainly a curse of a different color! Something like the tablet could be carved from high density extruded foam. The back story would be one of all the explorers killed by cultists bent on keeping it secret. Are they still out there?
Rune stones, dice, even beads can all be carved or customized and displayed as cursed objects!
The symbols can be literally anything. The stories are limited only by imagination. Were these stones used by a soothsayer in pre-Roman Europe? DO they foretell only evil? Do they have a history of being technically accurate but misleading, as the Oracle at Delphi was?
The curator knows!
